Disclaimer: The Deadman’s Catwalk hike trespasses on private property and is illegal. There are heavy fines for being caught, and the route can be dangerous. Go at your own risk, and only go if you will be respectful and not leave anything behind.
If you’re still interested in going…
Head up Kamehame Drive in Hawaii Kai until you reach the end and see the “No Trespassing” gate. If you’re lucky, the security guard won’t be patrolling that day. You’ll climb over the gate and begin a fairly easy hike along a paved path, stopping for scenic views of Oahu along the way. If you see lots of satellite dishes, electrical wires, and air traffic controllers, you’re on the right track. Do not mess with anything. You’ll have to jump a second fence about halfway through.
When you get to a third fence with a red arrow pointing right, go left around the outside of the fence until you come to a hole you can climb through. We didn’t find this until our return and actually turned right at the fence, which was do-able, but more difficult and dangerous as we had to walk along a steep cliff and climb under a smaller hole.
After a couple minutes, you’ll have to go around just one more fence, which is probably the scariest of them all, but make sure you have sure footing and a good grip and it’s not too bad.
Finally, enjoy the panoramic views of steep cliffs dropping into turquoise waters and take awesome pictures, but be safe!!
Again, please be respectful to the area, and don’t leave anything behind.
As always, keep on livin’ pura vida ✌
